Toshimaru Nakamura & Suzueri Invent Landscapes on “a floor, walls, and a ceiling”

Guitarist and no-input mixing board player Toshimaru Nakamura teams with pianist and custom noise instrument maker Suzueri. The result; an improvisational album consisting of two 20 plus minute tracks.

The first starts with gentle piano, accompanied by moments of tinkering sounds (think tiny cymbals and whirring hobby tools). Then, sustained stringed instruments fade in and drone onward, while trickling sounds and high pitched frequencies come in and out. Drilling noises and crackling static accompany glass-like piano taps. As the power tools bare down harder and harder the sounds of the motors start to feel sinister before giving way to piano and ultimately fading out.

The second track comes in hot. Strange sounds shift freely before locking into a sustained pitch that jumps and jerks in such a way that it seems to mimic bird calls and sirens. Sharp pulses stab the ears, masking the piano dancing and building in the background. These moments alternate until squelching fragments drift in and out and close the track.
