FANE is putting together what we hope will be the first in a series of free compilations featuring underground sounds from different communities. This comp, QUEER NOISE TERROR VOL. 1, is focused on the abrasive music coming out of the LGBTQIA+ community. Think Industrial, EBM, Metal, Power Electronics, Hardcore and, of course, Noise.
Does this sound interesting to you? If it does, here are you’re next steps:
1) Choose a track
– Your track does not have to be brand new and exclusive. you may decide to ultimately record something new, and that’s awesome, but for our first contact we mostly need to check out what you’re about. Whatever the case may be, let us know.
– There is no firm track length limit. That said, try to keep it to 10 minutes or less. I’m flexible though, so don’t disqualify your favorite track because it’s a tiny bit too long.
– The track must be your original creation that you own the rights to. Sorry, no covers.
– The style of music for this comp is heavy and abrasive. Think noise, industrial, power electronics, metal, doom, etc.
– At least one contributor to the track must be a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. If this doesn’t apply to you, don’t fret! We have many more comps planned that may be a perfect fit for you. Stay tuned!
2) Send us access to your track
– Upload your track to some streaming service (Soundcloud, Bandcamp) or file sharing service (WeTransfer, Mega). If you choose file sharing, please make sure the file can be natively played on iOS.
– Email us at FANEmag@gmail.com with the subject “FANE Music Comp” and include a link to where your track can be streamed or downloaded.
– Our editor Rob will review all submissions for inclusion and respond to all emails. If you’re not right for this comp, he’ll let you know and suggest any future project he thinks you might be a good fit for.
– Deadline for submission is January 31st 2024.
3) I was approved. Now what?
Every artist will have a dedicated square page in the PDF booklet that will be included with this compilation. To fill out that page, we’ll need the following from you:
– Artist Name, Song Title, Track Length, Descriptor
– Performer Credits
– Artist Photo. 908×1935 pixels, portrait orientation for solo artists and landscape orientation for groups. Please also include the photographer credit. You must own the rights to whatever photo you use.
– Short artist biography. Just a paragraph (2-5 sentences).
– URLs/links to where people can connect with you and your music. Try to keep it to 5. if you need more, consider using a service like linktree (we use it ourselves!).

4) Cool. What about the legal stuff?
When you submit content for this compilation, you grant FANE the following rights and affirm the following statements as true:
– You grant FANE the right to provide your submitted materials digitally, for free, in perpetuity. This is to ensure the compilation as a whole can always be available as long as FANE exists. This does not grant FANE the right to physically produce copies of your material or sell your material without prior consent.
– You assume all legal responsibility for the material you submit to FANE. We are only looking for material you have the legal right to grant us use of. When you submit material to FANE, you are declaring you have the legal rights to do so. Any legal liability for using unauthorized material in your track will belong to the artist.
– There is no exclusivity given or implied. The artists retain all rights to their materials and are free to reproduce them in any way they please. FANE does not assume ownership of any of your materials.
– You authorize the sharing of your submitted materials digitally, for free, across various peer to peer/file sharing services. The entire point of this compilation is promotion, and we want fans to be able to share this far and without fear of legal action (so long as its being shared freely, unedited, and not for profit). The compilation will be released as a whole under the CC4 License, which allows anyone to download the material and share it with their friends so long as the material is unedited/unmodified and complete.
…And that’s it. No sneaky bullshit, no fine print. If you’ve got a question, email us at FANEmag@gmail.com and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
